A bona fide marriage to a U.S. citizen usually results in approval of an
application to adjust status to Legal Permanent Resident (LPR).

Spouses and children accompany those employed in the United States
|
Spouses or children coming with the employee acquire the same status.

Parents, spouses and children of U.S. citizens
|
Visas are immediately available in this category.

Other family based members
|
Parents, spouses and children of permanent residents are also afforded
benefits by immigration laws. However, all these categories are subject
to annual limitations and are backlogged. This means permanent residents
will have to wait many years for close relatives, such as married children.

The backlogs in this category however are so long it is rarely used.
